My local place

The closest bar to my home is bit infamous(?) Hirvenkruunu! From the inside this place actually feels very cozy as a local bar, an interesting piece of work. It's also a cafe, and a popular lunch place among the truckers. It also has a bit "forested" beer terrace, and a minigolf track.. I suspect the building might - alas- be dismantled sometime in the future.. I will miss it..

Výtopna restaurant

This was very nice dinner place on the side of Václavské náměstí. Too bad my son wasn't with me this time, he would have loved it! ;)

Na zdraví!

"U doktora" was a nice place, with beer taps on the tables. Also the dinner from traditional menu I enjoyed here was *very* interesting. Thanks again guys. :)

Lunch and dinner in Czech style

Njam - some gulash, and then chicken with a slice of niva (and bacon of course).

Thoughts about the Czech kitchen

I'm a bit worried.. I've tried to watch my weight lately, and I've managed to even a few kilos. But now I'm going to take the trip to Czech Republic, a country that I associate with extremely delicious but also kinda heavy food.. such as roast pork with knedliký (dumplings made of white flour) or Hermelin cheese. How can I manage? What should I eat?

Bramboráky (fried pancakes made from potatoes) might be vegetarian choice, but it's not exactly a light dish in the end. Also, better to stay away from late night kebab this time. ;)

Salads are ok but they are usually flavored with mayonnaise. But what's good news is that healthy sauerkraut is commonly used in Czech cooking. Soup is called polévka.

To drink, naturally mineral water (such as Mattoni) or perhaps a sip of light Kofola - though, also original Kofola has 30% less sugar than Coca-cola or Pepsi. Any beer? Yes please. :)

(My main reference: Wikipedia's article about Czech Cuisine).

Hmm.. perhaps I've still managed to miss something essential?

A fairly remote glimse of Asian delicacy

Surely frozen sushi cannot be quite as tasty as the real thing, but it's close enough to my taste..

My last meal (in Czech)

The price is quite dreadful, but the taste is simply unbeatable - greasy cheese ("hermelin") with spicy chili and a large Pilsner. At the Ruzyne airport. Do I need to say more?

CU in Finland, folks.. Shouldn't take more than a few hours. :)
