Leikkurien Le Mans @ Haarajoen saha

Hehe, this is a nice form of motorsport.. lawnmowers on overdrive.. Going around the field for three hours. This weekend they have the first Finnish National Championship series 2011 race.

It was fun to watch, and there was an international presence as the World champion was participating! It was not too cold outside, and besides, coffee and warm sausages were available on-site.

A nice temperature reading (2011 remake)

Hmm, this one is from last week, but it's even kinda "nicer" that the one from last year.. (the peak that morning was actually -32.6 degrees of Celcius).

A mountain view!

How nice, when I look out the window I see big snow pile. Please make a few more of those, and I'm sure that if I try hard enough it'd almost feel like looking at the Alps. ;)

An affordable breakfast

After wandering around Rautatieasema ("the Helsinki Central Station") for some 10-20 minutes, I found that "Food Jones" is a place that probably serves the most affordable cup of coffee in the area (well, besides R-Kioski at least).

It's a little bit to the side from the main hallways, and I'm aware that the rent is probably very high for all business premises inside the station, but I'd still rather pay 3,50 euros for a coffee and a roll than five to six euros..

Talma

Talma is another ski center in Southern Finland. This one is near Kerava, a bit closer from where we live than Messilä. How convenient, as I think the "Werneri Park" for kids here was even a little better! The "snow tubes" were a lot of fun.

Seems that there may have been some unfortunate accident on the bigger slopes, because Medi-Heli visited the place.

Winter primetime

This is what winter looks like! The picture is actually a few weeks old, but the scenery still looks pretty much like it (though, there may be even more snow these days).

Messilä

This ski center is located in Hollola, near Lahti. We had nice time there with my son, enjoying the fresh air and winter snow sports even up till the late evening.

Olutfestarit @ Pihvi-Maja

It's great when you catch some local event like this. A "beer festival", with a selection of 25 beers waiting for tasting. They had most of them on sale at the kiosk too.

On my way out, I noticed the selection of single malts.. and this place is mostly know as just a lunch restaurant? The owner told me they do arrange some whisky tasting events few times a year. But I guess they are as poorly advertised as this event - just a small ad in the local newspaper. I hope they will arrange more this kind of events again, even sooner than next year!

Matkamessut 2011

Wow, time flies! Time for another "batch update" from the past weeks.

First, Matkamessut 2011 were arraged again at Messukeskus, Pasila. The event was crowded, as always. I got some brochures and free maps from all sorts of places, but didn't catch any really good offers.

One thing that caught my mind was that St. Peter Line's stand had grown - last year they were just handing out brochures from a small and rather undecorated stand, this year they had a big stand in the middle of the hall and all the action. One night in St. Petersburg for 99€, hmmm... :)

*Hey, it's also 2-year anniversary for the blog, wohoo!*
